Lymbyc Systym, formed in 2001, is an instrumental rock band from Tempe, Arizona consisting of brothers Jared and Michael Bell. Their sound combines elements of instrumental rock and electronic music. Lymbyc Systym has played with Broken Social Scene, Flaming Lips, Stars, The Books, Crystal Castles, The Album Leaf, Her Space Holiday, Buckethead, This Will Destroy You and The One AM Radio. The duo is currently signed to Mush Records and Magic Bullet Records in the USA and & Records in Japan and will be touring East Asia in June and July.

Twin Lobster is a 3-piece Philippine based band. Influenced by electronica, metal, and rock, they’ve got a really unique brand of music that purposely stays away from what people think is trendy. They love going against the flow. Twin Lobster has independently produced 2 albums so far.

In 2008, model/singer/tattoo artist Sarah Gaugler and guitarist Paolo Peralta started a musical revolution known as Turbo Goth. Their music has been typically described as electro-pop and it is incredibly charming indeed. Despite the name, their music is in no way, shape or form gothic or depressing. Turbo Goth promise a visual and audio experience like no other!

You should be there, people! It will be so LEGENDARY! Teatrino Theater, Greenhills, 7PM, tomorrow!

Greyhoundz. Loud and Proud.

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Greyhoundz will be performing alongside Slapshock at the 2nd leg of Splintr Unplugged at Teatrino Theather, Greenhills. If the first leg was any indication, an acoustic set of two of the loudest bands in the country will blow your mind.

Let’s take a closer look at 1 of the 4 Splintr Unplugged bands – Greyhoundz.

Greyhoundz

Their music used to be typically described as rap metal or rapcore. Through the years, however, they’ve evolved into experimental forms of music but still heavily influenced by heavy metal, hiphop and rap. Greyhoundz has a sound very distinct to them, with heavy guitar riffs, amazing basslines, and aggressive growling and rapping.

They started out in 1997 when Niño and Audie Avenido wanted to join a local band battle. It got cancelled, so they chose to audition at what used to be known as Club Dredd in Manila. They recruited Reg Rubio, who was from another band that played at Club Dredd, to be their vocalist. After that, TJ Brillantes jumped on board.

Tragically, in May 2004, Greyhoundz guitarist Allen Cudal died in a car accident. The band never took on a fifth member, as a sign of respect for Allen.

Despite this tragedy, Greyhoundz has managed to rise way beyond a lot of the other bands of any genre in the Philippine music scene. They have won a ton of awards and have been honored and nominated for tons more. Niño Avenido, one of the best bassists in the country, has won the NU Rock Awards Bassist of the year twice.

They’ve already released 4 albums: 7 Corners of your Game, Greyhoundz, Apoy, and Execution Style. With 4 albums out and almost 20 singles release to date, they’re still a force to be reckoned with. Check out some of their videos.

Did you know that the Asian release of the Spider-Man soundtrack had a Greyhoundz song? It had a track called “Even.”

If you’ve ever wondered what these guys can do completely raw and acoustic, call 844-7678 to get tickets to Splintr Unplugged. If you call the hotline, tickets go for P475. If you buy at the venue, there is a 10% surcharge. Greyhoundz and Slapshock, playing completely acoustic at a theater stage, directed by Quark Henares. Trust us when we say you do not want to miss this one.

Brooklyn & Manila: On the Search for a New Sound

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Drip, Sinosikat, Nykó Macá present GAFiEiRA & Radioactive Sago Project team up with one of Brooklyn’s true artist Dave Eggar!

For those not familiar with Dave Eggar, here’s what Time Magazine has to say about him: “An exceptionally accomplished all-around musician… Dave Eggar’s life in music seems an unending crescendo.”

The New York Times says “Eggar’s work is breathtaking … a deliverance from the sedate formality of the typical cello recital.”

Dave’s work resonates through many genres. Whether it’s classical, reggae, bluegrass, jazz, pop, or world music, Eggar finds a common voice within his musical vocabulary and introduces it with his own unique and imaginative vision.

His excellent training as a graduate in Harvard and Julliard School’s Doctorate Program is paired well with his prolific experience, having worked with the likes of Evanescence, The Who, Josh Groban, Coldplay, Pearl Jam, Duncan Sheik and Bon Jovi just to name a few.

Splintr’s New Releases- Unos by Sandata

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Splintr.com is proud to present to you a freshly released video: Unos by Sandata! This video saw its online debut exclusively on Splintr.com.

Unos by Sandata

Unos is a beautifully written piece packed with so much power and controlled aggression, producing one of the better songs of this genre in the Philippine music scene to date. Watch out of this band. If the rush you feel when you listen to any of their songs is any indication, Sandata is going to go places and they’re going to be huge. Here’s what’s written on the New Releases Page:

With all the music that’s overwhelming the local scene, Sandata is able to offer a fresh yet familiar sound with their unique brand of metal. They are able to surprise audiences with their groove-based beats combined with aggressive guitar riffs, and powerful yet melodic vocals. Sandata started out as a cover band that was put together with the sole intention of playing in a single school fair. Later on, the band decided to write songs and try to make it in the local scene. After a few years and a number of line-up changes, Sandata is now a force to reckon with and is ready to make its mark in the industry.

To watch the video, go to Splintr.com, then click on the upper right corner, where it says New Releases. Or you could just simply click here.

Splintr.com will always, always give you the latest from the greatest local and international bands. Keep track of what’s hot by following us on Twitter and Facebook.

New Releases!

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Over at Splintr.com, the video library just keeps growing and growing. We just recently added two new videos from Mr. Bones & The Boneyard Circus. To see the new videos, go to Splintr.com and click on New Releases.

new-releases

We have Go Go Dance, which is, quite honestly, an amazingly rocking song coupled with a bizarre music video you’ll just have to see to believe. Haunted Wonderland was a Splintr exclusive for a whole week. The video is a continuation of the Go Go Dance video. The song brings it closer to the Goth influence but still retains a much heavier edge.

Those who haven’t heard Mr. Bones and The Boneyard Circus are in for a treat. Don’t let the theatrics fool you; they came to rock your socks off and they will most likely succeed in doing so.

“Loud and definitely in your face! Dark and twisty lyrics, set to raw and raucous, yet masterful music. Deliciously infectious grooves. Theatrical, with more than a hint of macabre drama. Welcome to Mr. Bones and the Boneyard Circus’ unique brand of musical madness and merry mayhem!

Formed in mid-2009, the band belies and defies being the “new bones in the cemetery lot”. With their sheer musical talent, dedication, and creative edge, the band is destined to rock the tombstones off your graves. They cite Wednesday 13, Zombie Ghost Train, The Horrors, The Misfits, Korn, REPO! The Genetic Opera, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Alice Cooper, Sigur Ros, The Doors, Nirvana, Metallica, and Iron Maiden among their many loud and proud musical influences. Their sound is a fusion of ska, punk, and hard rock, with undertones of classic rock. The end-result of which can only be described as “PSYCHO-BILLY!”
